    Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Yev Gurevich and I head the CORE Technologies division at
OPNET Technologies, Inc. (www.opnet.com). The next major release of
our Modeler product will include a capability to checkpoint and
restart discrete-event simulations, built upon your implementation of
Checkpoint/Restart. We intend to ship LGPL-licensed libraries with
our commercial product, and direct end users to download and install
    the GPL-licensed components.

As part of our development and QA work, we have run across a
particularly difficult problem -- it is not possible to attach GDB to
a restarted process for the purposes of source-level debugging of
that process. Specifically, GDB is unable to locate symbols when it
attaches to the restarted process, and is unable to load shared
libraries that were used by the restarted process.

I would like to know if you would be interested in having OPNET
sponsor implementation work to investigate and solve the above
mentioned problem. The work in question would be funded by OPNET and
returned to the open-source community by allowing you to keep the
funded enhancements as part of the existing LGPL-licensed BLCR software.

Please let me know if you would be interested in further pursuing
this idea. If the general idea of sponsored/funded work on BLCR is
acceptable but the specific feature/investigation poses particular
problems, please let me know as well, so that we can consider making
similar requests in the future besides the GDB-attach issue which is
of particular interest to us at this time.

    Sincerely,
    Yev Gurevich
